WIMBLEDON ON THE WEB

Do you think that WFC's web presence has improved since this time last year? :

  Yes

  No
26 %
  No difference
10 %

OTHERS: Don't know

YOUR COMMENTS:

Yes cos my site is online ;0)

Yes, actually. Better quality news. Ian McCullogh (sp?) has improved things no end.

Fan wise, yes. Club wise no.

No, it's shite

Yes. After a shaky start (and a naff design) I think the content of the OS has improved vastly from the Planet Football model.

Never check out the official site so do not know.

Quality of unofficial sites is excellent.

The official site was a bit crap last season and much the same this year. Unofficial websites still good.

Yeah, except for the OS

Shit as usual, maybe a bit better.

In my eyes yes, but then I hadnt ‘discovered’ many sites other than the os.

No change, really, although due to the time constraints a certain teenage webmaster had to contend with and knock-on lack of updates on his site, the quality of WFC on the net has declined drastically…….. ? (subtle plugging gets you nowhere.....)

Would you like to see such things as ticket purchasing for WFC games available on-line? :

YOUR COMMENTS:

No I think Palarse workers will fuck it up.

Yeah. Why not? Would speed things up as well.

There already is???!!111 (I mean a proper thing, not a dodgy email thing)

Yes, with collection from the Box Office and no handling fee!!

No. Unless they get a decent website that is done properly.

Not really – doesn’t seem to be much point and don’t think it would generate extra sales.

Yes, but you can already buy tickets by sending an e-mail (SW19 - again, sending email is iffy as there are no security checks. Also, £2 booking fee for using it? I think not)

This would be a deffinate goer as well as requests for additional seats so ST's can bring guests and for registering change of addresses

Not too bothered really. There could be a bit more up to date ticket availability on the official site though.

Yes but registration would be necessary before purchase (safety and security reasons and it would help with future marketing)

Yes for away games

Yes (although I’ve used the email service on a number of occasions and found it to be pretty good)

What is your favourite "commercial" WFC related site :
(note: by "commercial", I mean a site that is run by a commercial company - I don't mean anything like a site run by a fan or the WFC official site)

  None

  Sky Sports
12 %
  TwatTalk / BBC
8 %

OTHERS: Don't know, Official Site, TalkFootball, Nationwide, FootballUnlimited, Players sites, Footballnews.co.uk, Big Tissue, Yahoo

YOUR COMMENTS:

Teamtalk only cos there’s something to read every day

All are shite (none)

A favourite? There’s only the OS and the ‘rivals’ site? They’re all not as good as the fan sites.

GarethAinsworth.com/Trond or Mark Williams sites

TwatTalk – makes me laugh

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'll take that as "none" then)

There is only one isn’t there? The official site…unless you mean sports site, in which case it has to be Yahoo because they bring all the other crap together and YOU can decide whether it’s bollocks or not.

What is your least favourite "commercial" WFC related site :

  TwatTalk
48 %
  None
33 %
  Official Site
10 %

OTHERS: Most of them, all of them

YOUR COMMENTS:

I know everyone including myself slagged the re-launch of the official site, but I don’t find it too bad to be honest, the content is still pretty poor, but it is generally slightly better than before, and credit has to be given for that.

Erm lets see piss easy TwatTalk is aload of balls.

Have no opinion on them, they’re OK.

TwatTalk – it’s full of shite

None, all have some qualities.

They all suck more cock than Elton John

Looks like Dons fans prefer their own sites. Which considering the quality, ain't that surprising

Not including SW19's ARMY, what is your favourite WFC fan-run web site? :
(note: if you run your own web site, don't vote for yourself - I can trace you)

  Weird and Wonderful World
76 %
  Itmustbedons.com
9 %
  Don't know / WISA
6 %

OTHERS: westbank.co.uk

YOUR COMMENTS:

I can’t really rate one above the other right now, it’s between what I call ‘The Big Four’, that being W&WW, It Must Be Dons, your own site and Neil’s WFC Site

SW19 is good along with Jonesy’s site. But the guestbooks do get a bit lost up their own asses.

Visit W&WW the most probably although it gets a bit precious on the guestbook in there sometimes.

Mr Jones wins handsomely for the second year in a row. He turned down the butt plug prize last year, so instead I'm giving him a nuclear warhead to aim at a certain place in Buckinghamshire.

Do you think there are too many fan-run WFC web sites about? :

  No
86 %
  Yes
14 %

YOUR COMMENTS:

Too many to visit regularly, but no

No, never have too many fans showing thier love for the dons (also my new one is out soon)

no; if someone wants to express their passion for the club through their own website , they’ve got every right to – no-one’s obliged to visit them if they don’t want to.

No, the great thing about choice is that you can choose to visit or not to visit!

No, competition is healthy

No. Every one offers something different.

No the more the better for rainy days although I do tend to only flip between a couple.

No – they can be a bit ‘Free Speech For The Dumb’ in many cases, but with as few fans as we’ve got, they are the best way to keep up.

No, there could be a few more I guess.

Yes - getting that way

Yes but only because there is little to distinguish between a lot of them content wise.

There’s a lot of crap about yes, but that’s the web more than anything else.

No, they offer something different

I only bother with SW19 & WWW

Looks like us webbies are doing a good enough job then...

If you don't run a WFC web site, would you be considering to do one in the next year or so? :

  No
83 %
  Doing so already
14 %
  Yes
3 %

YOUR COMMENTS:

There is no point. All needs are already catered for.

No, as I couldn't do any better than the sites that are on the web already.

Don’t be so stupid !

I’ll leave that down to those who wouldn’t get sued! (urm, and this site is nice and "safe" is it?)

I run a football related site which inevitably ends up with a Dons bias.

Consider writing articles - I used to edit and produce Go Jo Go!! Fanzine.

Watching how dedicated the webmasters of some of the sites are, I would never embarrass myself by attempting to compete. That’s a poor excuse in itself, but the truth all the same.

Additional Comments on Wimbledon on the web :

Close down the official SHITE,opps I mean site.

We’re one of the best represented clubs for our number IMO.

WISA is a god-send. the official site is even worse than it was before. It is sterile and soulless. Where’s the fun in it? It should have a lot more insight into what goes on behind the scenes, a lot more interaction between the club management and players and the fans. There’s nothing on it that makes it feel in any way clubby.

The Club could do more to ensure that the Official site is accurate

Get rid of W&WW

I think we are well represented with some high quality sites and long may it continue.

The fan sites are more informative than the official one.

Good presence for a club with a small fan base

Yawn.

Have actually started… think it will be the most unpopular one!

All the sites provide a great time wasting opportunity for office based workers like me

Nice to see a few players have got their won sites.

Should be a decent chat room

Don’t always assume everyone has access

Useful tool that the Club on an official level could utilise more effectively particularly in terms of advertsing

Keep up the campaigning us fans are very privileged to have a core couple of decent sites.

I don’t know what other teams have, but we seem to have a coupla quality sites and the contributers ‘can spell their own names if they try hard’ ?

What the fuck did I do at work before the web? (er, what your job description is supposed to be? :) )

Very good way of finding info

Trust you've all noted where the idea for the SW19 chat room came from...

SW19's ARMY - be honest…….

After this line on one entry, somebody wrote "Rob - you're wonderful, what else?!". Ah, jee…

What do you like most about SW19's ARMY? :

  Match reports / news
38 %
Honesty / "no holds barred" approach
24 %
  Humour
10 %

OTHERS: Writing style, picture captions, graphics, archives, originality, regulars (now known as "Guest Articles"), articles, guestbook, comment, End of Season Polls

YOUR COMMENTS:

The acerbic wit and venom of the author and the Annual Survey

Opinionated and not afraid to offend

The News and the match reports. Funny, irreverent and normally on the button.

The pictures from matches are cool. second best source of club news (after WWW), but always presented in a sparky and opinionated way.

Most of the time I think that the opinions are actually sensible even if they are expressed in an extreme way. I like the fact that it is written from the heart and that you always have a point of view even if it is a daft one.

The match reports. Un-opinionated just give you the jist of the game. Not like other sites with player ratings and opinionated student like people running them. Also no rumour mongering like everyother wfc site

You can say whatever the F*%! you like!

Match reports by Steve Claridge lookalike (eh?)

The comments, no nonsense and no holding back on what you feel and want to say

Quite funny, although somewhat OTT occasionally.

News and your acidic wit

Freedom of speech, good layout and very good archives

Irreverance, sarcasm, honest match reports, no visible ‘favourite players’.

No bullshit.

Outspoken honesty and a willingness to criticise the club when this is needed

Guestbook, match reports (despite the odd joke about them;), new chat room could be a laff for away games etc.

Pulls no punches……it’s very highly opinionated which makes for a great read.

The match reports are superb. I like the way you blow your trumpet, you get everywhere geeza!! Does that make sense? You have a good swing both ways? (what I get up to in my private life is of no concern of yours. You'll have to ask my good friend Mr Portillo that one) In other words one day you’re up, and the next you’re down (in relation to WFC). Something bad comes out about WFC and you see the positive side of things, very handy when all around are dooming and glooming. Yet when things appear to be going well you come in with your ‘things may not be as they seem” type comments. Without it, things would be dull and rather uninteresting.

Well, that's the ego massage exercise out of the way, onto......

What do you dislike most about SW19's ARMY? :

  Guestbook
24 %
  None
17 %
  Don't know / Graphics / More Updates

OTHERS: Photos, speed, content, the writer, articles, match reports

YOUR COMMENTS:

Guestbook - too bland

The pointless digital photos from the stands in the match reports – you can never see any meaningful action etc. (something to do with my crappy camera)

More updates please, also you always seem to go AGAINST anything people say, 'if everyone likes it, u don't' type thing, almost if u want to be different (nothing personal ;-)) (I have been accused of this on many an occasion - even my own parents call me a "cantankerous bastard")

Too few people contribute to the GB (merely an observation rather than a dislike)

Guestbook - too slow Steve Claridge lookalike who runs it (only joking dude!!!). Steve Claridge lookalike who sometimes thinks that he can do impressions of Jonesy on the site where it doesn’t impress anyone. (apologies, I can't speak in hip-hop much)

Pictures of my bald spot in the news pages.

Takes a while to load sometimes Teenagers in the guestbook that have no sense of the clubs history because they were not there and think that the clubs history only started the day they started going. Although they probably say something similar about old farts like me.

Slow to load, but that could be my crank-handled steam-powered home PC….

Guest Book, you seem to attract real weirdos ;-)

Dullards in the guestbook

The writer (only joking Rob)

All the articles are from one source (I think) (yeah, me - except for the Guest Articles bit)

The readability - the blue across the whole page is too much for my bloodshot eyes.

Lack of updates, but then that’s not what it is all about

Dunno really, I have never really occupied myself with the Sounds section, I suppose

You have a style of your own, and refuse to change it. Which of course is not a dislike in itself, it’s just not me. So I ought to write a website for myself and see how hard it is? I do! RESPECT to you is due!!

Author’s domination of the Guestbook

Match reports when we lose

A couple of these points have (hopefully) been remedied in this new design. And you think I'm being paranoid when I ask this question?

If you were running SW19, how would you change it? :

YOUR COMMENTS:

Perhaps do more comic things like the Celsi fun page.

Make it easier to access individual match reports?

I’d love to see more stuff on away matches, especially attendance figures.

I think it’s pretty good as it is; it fulfills its mandate as Wimbledon’s Politically Unsound Fanzine; it has its own personality and style that complements that of other sites.

Leave it as it is. change the layout and graphics of the site more interactive (e.g polls etc) also links to player sites.

I wouldn’t, I’d ask you what you wanted to change and pay you to do it!

More snaps more updates

I am not and I like it just the way it is. Could do with a facelift though.

Wouldn’t want to chief – not my baby is it?

Be a bit more objective towards people like Sam, Kinnear & Hartson (good luck......)

Maybe a tad more details in the match report about the football although you can get that elsewhere and it is not a complaint.

Speed up the load time and gb refreshment to encourage more traffic – if that’s what you want?

Can't really think of anything although a biog or feature on the guy who runs it might be helpful as references to America etc sometimes lead me scratching my head!! (

I would be drunk more than you (which goes without saying ?)

Change appearance

Keep it as it is

Updating it more regularly also perhaps live chat forum, ability to see e-mail addresses on guestbook

Guests writing articles (in keeping with the current editor’s style of course)

More pics, lots more silly bits, a quick noticeboard.

My style is different to yours with regards to design. having said that, I use quark to a basic level and cant put shit on the net so…

From a design viewpoint is the only change I would make, and that would be to have the links underneath the title instead of in the ‘gridded’ style. But that’s just me!

I wouldn’t, much, to be honest, you could give it some fancy design, but what’s the point? The big thing I would probably do though is work on getting it higher up the search engine lists.

Again, all comments noted, a couple implemented....

What was your favourite front cover since this time last year?:

  Hartson elevator
21 %
JH Pukka Pies / Don't know

  The banned one / none
13 %

OTHERS: San Francisco, Pecker gobbling, all, last away win, Goran Ivanisevic

YOUR COMMENTS:

They are always witty. The [stadium in San Francisco] is very good.

Something involving Hartson IIRC

Blimey. Normally skip the cover and go straight to news and guestbook. don't really look at those

Hartson going down – cos it seemed so apt

The witnesses of WFC’s last away win. It was very funny, but made especially so due to the timing of said cover! (for the uninitiated, the cover came out before Sheff Wed away. The rest is history)

Ummm, not sure actually all are pretty surreal.

Typically, the two top ones are the ones that I didn't do (or at least have intellectual property rights to).

OTHERS: Marco Polo, Reading/Derby/Bolton (even though that wasn't last season), all, Goran Ivanisevic

YOUR COMMENTS:

The Hartson in the lift wasn’t funny at all.

They’re all good mate (you’re a bit paranoid aintcha?)

The reminder of how Bolton, Huddersfield, etc have all got a new ground recently…….just hurts dammit!

Most were half decent.

I like Neal Ardley!! So, the [Goran Ivanisevic] one.

At least nobody dislikes the front covers :)

What was your favourite article since this time last year?:

OTHERS: Save Sarah, one by FL John, rants, Something Must Be Don, anything positive

YOUR COMMENTS:

Was the Plough lane one when you visited it done before last year? if not then that one. (it wasn't, and hence I can't allow it. And yes, I know I allowed the Bolton/Derby front page above)

Predictions for 2001 – scarily accurate some of them eg Ainsworth getting more injuries and Bradford and Coventry relegated

One by Florida John, but can't remember what it was called

Rants - get in there

Several well-thought out pieces on the ground issue

It has to be the one written about BFJ (Harston). Well written and thought out. So good I saved it as a word file, but had to change all the abbreviations because to the uninitiated they mean nothing!!

The Grounds For Complaint is highly poignant at this time.

What was your least favourite article since this time last year?:

OTHERS: Grounds For Complaint

YOUR COMMENTS:

The one about 'Save Chip' FFS mate its a bit of fun!!!! (I'm sorry, I can't stand Tim Fucking Nonce Lovejoy. I can't even listen to his XFM show without wanting to spew)

None - liked them all Plough Lane articles. I want to go back there like never before now….

I found the Soccer AM ‘Save Chip’ thang a bit harsh, being a big fan ‘n’ all. Not to say it was a bad article, just that it totally disagreed with my opinion

Can’t say I didn’t like any of them. Yes shall I brown nose you anymore? (oh go on….)

Bugger, didn't know so many people watched Soccer AM.

YOUR COMMENTS:

Keep up the good work pal.

More pictures please! And that away thing is a good idea IMO.

Thanks for all the time and hard work you put into running the site. It’s very much appreciated. Best fan run site there is on WFC. Keep it up.

Fantastic, congrats on becoming the first Gold card member of the NCCC!

Don’t scrap it whatever you do!

Just get a facelift. I will help if you want.

Don’t tone down I like the raw style of the writing.

Reports & news very well written & entertaining

My first port of call after a match. (After a few jars of course)

This poll is the kind of feedback the club should be getting from its customers. Pass it on to them, along with a proposal to take over their www presence.

Keep up the good work fella. Is there a prize draw for completing this questionnaire???

It was best when I ran it ;-) (no it wasn't.....)

Less block paragraphs visit it most days so cant be negative about it at all still find the blue font a bit of a an eyesore

It needs a link to http:?/www.geocities.com/womfree – Wombling Free is back on Monday 6 August 2001!! Is it getting silly now?? (siiiiggghh…..) Apart from that, just that it should keep going, it’s a must for WFC fans on the net.

I have spotted you once or twice at SP, and you look like how you write…..which has nothing to do with the question, but needless to say, I have had the urge to run up to you and introduce myself.

Not a huge follower, I’ll confess.

And there you have it. Will the EOSP be back for 2001/02? Fucking hope so. Now, about this MK bollocks, Mr Koppel.....
