A new era for
everyone. |
 |
Already, Franchise's financial
problems were starting to bite. |
 |
Being a new team, we needed
some pretty experienced players quickly. |
 |
Not only had Franchise run
out of brown envelopes, they were a little unforthcoming with some vital
documents. Presumably, everyone is still waiting for them. |
 |
Remember "Yes" car
finance? The rather iffy adverts where almost anyone could get financial
help? I said "almost"..... |
 |
The Iraq war buildup and our
first ever game against Southall. Historians still debate which caused
the most damage pro rata. |
 |
War. What is it good for?
SW19 front pages, that's what. Bring more armed conflicts on, that's what
I say. |
 |
Remember this guy? The infamous
Comical Ali, butt of a zillion variations of the same joke. |
 |
Franchise had redesigned their
logo, which looked like a stray cat spewing up. Eventually, it was dropped
without being used because of non payment (the kids hadn't been paid in
lollypops, and a visit from Reg Davis was referred to the vice squad) |
 |
As the Franchise finally left
Selhurst, a tearful salute. In hindsight, with the return of the club
honours in 2008 to Merton, it's probably the one front page I regret doing. |
 |
In the news was an executive
of Glaxo who had been promised a huge pension. Shareholder pressure forced
him - and his pension - out. Further examination by SW19 showed just how
bad things were. |
 |
Franchise goes into admin.
I really don't need to make further comment. |
 |
The leasehold of KM is purchased. |
 |
The Williams sisters were
tearing up the tennis tournament down the road. One was left wondering
how much more they could do in SW19. |
 |
Roger Joseph was linked with
a comeback at Wimbledon, and until 2006/07 remained the only ex-WFC player
to play for AFCW. |
 |
Now come on, where would SW19
be without some good old Chelski bashing? Those with long memories may
spot the similarity between the picture and Stamford Bridge in the 1980s. |
 |
Apologies for putting you
off your meal. |
 |
The first Dons Trust elections
post 28/5/02 had a lower-than-expected turnout, about 45%. |
 |
And some good old fashioned
Spurz bashing as well. In this case, David "first gear" Pleat
was departing from N17. |
