SW19 (2009) : About a couple of days before this was written, the site where Raynes Park Vale play was purchased by BRG. This has been included just how much Wimbledon FC was ruined by the Franchise move - just imagine if this had all gone ahead like it was supposed to.

Where we'll spend 90% of our time...

19 APRIL 2000

PGPF has just been purchased, and as yet remains untouched. Brightly sunny (if extremely muddy....), with the all new SW19 Digital Instamatic, various shots of the place were taken as they stand before the refurb.

The main entrance to the site, just off Grand Drive. Quite a small entrance, as you can see. It remains to be seen where the entrance to the facility will be, chances are it will probably be easier to go off the A298 (which is to the left of the picture, though you won't be able to see it.....)

To the right, you can see Malden Vale floodlights. At the back, the buildings are the David Lloyd leisure centre.

As you walk in, this is what greets you. This is possibly where the car park would be (behind you, there is a row of houses, nice ones as well).

In the photo, you should be able to make out the A298, if you're struggling a little bit with the photo, just work out where the diametric line of houses/the road is

The big white building on the skyline, to the right of the centre of the photo, is Wimbledon Bridge House, situated slap bang in the middle of Wimbledon town centre. So be glad that our current and future players will be learning their set pieces in the full glare of Wimbledon itself....

This is a view of Malden Vale FC (the floodlights)/the main entrance/the "car park" from the view of the David Lloyd. This gives you an idea of how big the site is. The row of trees to the right of the picture hide the row of houses that were referred to in the second picture

Although it's near impossible to see what is on the left, it is in fact a separate playing field, which has a basketball court, changing rooms etc. It's unlikely that it's been bought up as well

And just to prove how big the site really is - this is taken from a very similar spot to the previous photo, only looking out to the right a lot more.

As can be seen, the A298 runs parallel (the white rectangles are sides of houses, in case you can't follow the photo....). The building behind the tree in the centre is situated on Raynes Park high street, so if any of our players fancy a kebab after training, then they can pop down the road.

For those curious, this is what the David Lloyd leisure centre looks like. Taken from virtually the same spot as the third picture, only in a different direction :)

You will have undoubtedly noticed the big grass bank in front of the centre - it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the actual changing rooms etc situated here. It will be out of the way of the houses, plus it could easily connect to the David Lloyd centre (which, coincidentally, is where the players "work out" at the moment).

The main stand at Malden Vale. It's not unfeasible to suggest that a stand the whole way along could be put along, if you look at the back, there's not a lot in the way (only the house). Also, to the right (not shown, but behind one of the goals) is a reasonably large area full of nothing. Again, a nice little terrace, perhaps?

The left of the picture (not shown) is the changing rooms, all left to ruin. Potential development scope?

One further thing - look at how flat the playing surface is. Not.

And to finish off, here is a view from the main stand (see above). This is probably the best way to look at the site, and also gives you an idea of just how uneven the whole site is.

If you look in front of the houses, you will see that the ground itself is raised, like a little hill. It looks clear that the whole area will need to be "pressed" before any work can be done on relaying the turf. Couple this with the fact that Malden Vale is on a mound anyway and you can see why £5m will need to be spent on the place.
